Meet Clide, the Deliberately Unhelpful AI Assistant
Most AI assistants are eager to help. Clide isn't. Here's why that's the point.
Introduction to Clide
Clide (get it?) is yet another AI assistant you didn't ask for. Except this one doesn't give you all the answers, and that is by design. Instead of babying you and doing everything for you, Clide exists to do what AI is best at: summarizing large volumes of information quickly. No more, no less. On CLI-Games, things can get... technical. We don't want that to scare you off. The Old Guard might say "skill issue, read the manual," but why would I do that when I can just ask Clide? Clide is never far away, trained on every manpage, help doc, and wiki article out there, and is adept at giving you the information you need when you ask for it. So when you are 6 tiers deep into CTF and forget which flag you need for awk, the simple :clide do I use -F here? will get you the answer you need immediately.
The Problem With Helpful AI
Everybody and their mother is vibe coding a GPT wrapper and trying to sell it to you. All megacorps are scrambling to shoehorn AI features into your workflow when it was working just fine before. Their strategy is to take more off your plate and give it to the AI. There is widespread understandable backlash to this. It results in a loss of control and a feeling of helplessness. Clide just wants to make you better able to learn and apply concepts - not take the reins from out of your hands.
The Philosophy
CLI-Games is swimming against the tide by bringing back sovereignty. We want to make sure basic computer literacy survives the AI revolution. We are betting that as more and more work is delegated to AI tools, the ability to execute a task when the power goes out will be a necessary and highly-sought after skillset. Our aim is to provide a dual-gauntlet-playground where you can practice your regex with daily challenges and PvP, then use those talents to organically discover content in text-based RPGs. At the end of the day, you will be the only one in CS orientation that hopes regex will be on the test - because it will be so easy for you. You will also be the only one who gets the interview.
Who Is Clide?
Clide won't give you the answer, he will answer your question. The key is knowing which questions to ask. He is your lightning-fast manpage curator, the one who remembers what the wiki wrote, and can remind you what you two spoke about yesterday. You don't need to explain which game you're currently playing or which directory you're in, and you can always shoot him a message by giving the command clide. What he does not respond well to is "clide Mrs. Henderson is asking me why fixing her emails requires installing a floppy into her A drive, what excuse should I give her?" Clide might reply, "Nice try. I know a cheat injection when I see one. You're on your own."
